We have so many thoughts on this topic and, most of all—we want an informed buyer! So, we’re going to break a few things down.
7 Questions to Ask Yourself….
Do you love it?
Will you wear it?
How long has the brand been around?
Does the bag ever go on sale?
What’s the process of making the handbag?
What are similar bags reselling for on other sites?
How long do you intend to keep it or wear it?
1. Do you love it?
If you don’t love it, then don’t buy it. There’s nothing worse than watching your beloved baby sit on the shelf and collect dust. It doesn’t qualify as a good investment if you don’t use it or intend to resell it later for more than you paid for it.
2. Will you wear it?
How often will you wear it? If the answer is a lot, go for it! We always want the colorful cool bag, but as far as being able to wear the piece religiously—stick to your guns. What colors are your go-to colors? Many people’s answer would be black. For us, beige is queen! It still makes sense for us to own multiple beige bags and get plenty of use out of them.
3. How long has the brand been around & 4. Does the bag ever go on sale?
If you’re really worried about this bag being an investment, you may want to look into the brand’s history. Is the designer a fashion icon? How long have they been around? How often does this designer put their items on sale? Having sales is not a huge red flag, but keep in mind that Chanel and Hermes don’t have sales. That’s part of the reason these iconic pieces never lose their value.
5. What’s the process of making the handbag?
What is the design and production process of making this bag? You want to make sure that it’s a really good quality product, not just a logo you’re buying. Don’t be afraid of a vintage piece either. Brands like Chanel, Coach, and Louis Vuitton are known to take a beating over the years and still look flawless.
6. What are similar bags reselling for on other sites?
What are these bags selling for? Will you be buying a new handbag for much higher than what the resale is? You can guarantee that’s a bad bag investment right off the bat. It means it does. not. hold. value. (we don’t like that)
7. How long do you intend to keep it or wear it?
If you are looking at this bag as a true investment piece that either retains or increases in value, you could be on to something! However, it will most likely cost you a pretty penny! Bags like Chanel collectors’ pieces, limited edition pieces, Hermes Birkin’s, or Hermes Kelly’s, etc. will most likely increase in value and therefore, make a killer investment piece. But, once again—they come with a high price tag!
In conclusion-be real with yourself. Are you buying it to use it? Are you buying it in hopes it increases in value? Will you wear it? Be honest and make your decisions accordingly! We support whatever decision you make!
